Respite Scholarships Available
Farmsteads of New England, Inc. (FNE) has received a $10,000 grant from the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism to provide funds to help families who have adolescent and adult children with autism pay for respite services at FNE.

FNE can provide respite for any length of time from a couple hours to a week. 1:1 support and awake overnight support is available if needed. Families may choose to use FNE's staff or to use their regular respite worker who would accompany the individual while at the farmstead. Alternatively, parents may use the farmstead themselves (as a B& B of sorts) while leaving their son or daughter with a familiar respite worker at home.

FNE is located at the Rosewald Farm in Hillsborough, NH and provides day, residential and respite services in a farming environment to adolescents and adults who have autism and other developmental disabilities. Both indoor and outdoor activities are available and include such things as petting the animals, taking nature walks/snowshoeing, picking vegetables (in season), making crafts, using the game room, and swimming.

For more information, contact Deborah Gray at 603-464-2590 or e-mail her at ddgray@farmsteads-ne.org.
Project Offers Training and Technical Support to Children with Vision and Hearing Issues
Concord - Do you know a child or young adult, aged birth through 22, who has both vision and hearing issues? They may be eligible for supports and services from the New England Center Deafblind Project. The New England Center, a collaborative between New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Maine, provides training and technical support to families and schools and will waive registration fees for family members at all trainings.

A child does not have to have complete deafness or blindness to be eligible for the New England Center services. This means that children who have Down syndrome, multiple disabilities or other health issues may qualify if diagnosed with a mild loss in both sensory areas.

Many families eligible for this free service are not on the database. Your support in connecting them to the NEC is greatly appreciated. Registration of a child requires parental approval.

The NH office is located at ASSETT in Concord, the statewide training and technical assistance resource for NH students who have sensory impairments, funded by the NH Department of Education.

Call ASSETT at 226-2900 if you have any questions or to receive a registration form. For more information, visit www.necdbp.org
